Hi there -- I've downloaded the new bit file -- also the new diy_load.exe --
I'm currently in the process of downloading the ISPlever software.
Can I call you tomorrow morning my time so you can walk me through the
process of loading the new configuration/bit file into the physical DIY
Calculator? If so, please email me the number to call -- I didn't setup
Skype -- it only costs us a few cents a minute to call Austria from our
office.
Cheers -- Max

hi max,
i agree that this will "disconcert" users. the loader program is in a very
early stage and still needs some serious tests and rework.
GTK (graphic tool kit) is the name of the runtime library, which is
necessary to install when you want to run the "loader".
today i tried to install the loader on several "virgin" machines - without
any troubles. i have no idea what it want's to rename or why it want's to
restart on your pc's.
actually, loader v1.3 is already out of date. you can replace
C:\Program Files\DIY_Calculator\bin\diy_load.exe
with the newest version (v1.5) from:
http://svn.pcl.at/viewvc/diy-calculator/loader/trunk/diy_load.exe?revision=2
17
you don't need to uninstall - just overwrite the old "diy_load.exe" with the
new one.
anyway, try "tera term" and operate the monitor program directly. you'll get
a better understanding what's going on in details.
the monitor needs to be tested and to be flawless before the loader can be
overhauled because it's just a GUI to the monitor.
btw. how is your progress with ispLEVER? in the newest .bit file
(http://svn.pcl.at/viewvc/diy-calculator/fpga-vhdl/trunk/diy_calculator.bit?
revision=216) there are a lot of improvements of the cpu and the embedded
monitor program.
on svn i also made a directory for user programs. there you can find the
modified "joe's bcd routines"
http://svn.pcl.at/viewvc/diy-calculator/user_programs/joes_bcd/trunk/joe-bcd
.asm?revision=218 and a "16bit hex calculator" which johannes wrote to test
the cpu's flag operation. it display's the state of the flags from the last
arithmetic instruction, on the keypads led's. you can find it at
http://svn.pcl.at/viewvc/diy-calculator/user_programs/16bit-hex/trunk/
have a lot of fun!
helmut

Hi Helmut - re your upload utility - both machines I loaded it on (my
notepad computer and also the desk-side machine with the RS232 port)
experienced problems.
I don't think it's the utility itself, but the other "stuff" that it forced
me to load (I can't remember what it was, but I asked you about it wanting
to rename a file).
In both cases it said I had to reboot - and in both cases when I did reboot
I got a blank Windows screen with no icons on my desktop - and not even a
Start button - so I had to do a hard reset/power-down, then the next time
each machine booted up is seemed to be OK.
I think this will be "disconcerting" to other users. Is there any way to
make the utility totally standalone so that it doesn't need to load the
"weird" stuff?
Cheers -- Max
